I was adding memory to some 5820 models we purchased and find that the original 2x8 16GB configuration was located in DIMM 1 & 8 rather than DIMM 1 & 2 as indicated in the manual for memory configuration. Certainly easy to do if you look at the chart and simply count from left to right without noting the numbers are non-sequential.

Yeah totally, its better if the specs of the sticks are as similar as possible, but its often not an issue. I bought some DDR2 RAM for m current system which has 8GB RAM in total with each 2GB stick being from different brands, but the specs were exactly alike so I got em all to work, even OC'd all of them from 667 MHz to 800MHz on an intel board.

AMD doesn't publish any data on how this works, but Intel does. Very likely it works the same as Intel CPUs though, it did so in the past. On an Intel CPU you would indeed have the same thing as before, only with 32 bit dual channels per controller, so 16 GB 32 bit wide quad channel and 8 GB 32 bit wide dual channel memory. true.
Yes, you can use 8 GB RAM and 4 GB RAM together on your PC. There is a myth among tech people that it’s not possible to use two different-sized RAMs. But it’s totally not true. The motherboards come with at least two RAM slots but now the modern motherboards come with four RAM slots. You don't need to match two sticks of 16GB if you aren't going to use all of that, but a 16GB and 8GB stick would give you more consistent performance. Hi, thanks for posting on r/pcgamingtechsupport . Please read the rules . For maximum efficiency, please double check that you used the appropriate flair.

You would be mixing single rank and dual rank ram which in general is a bad idea. More than likely this will force all your RAM to run at 2133mhz. If you really need more RAM get another identical kit of the 2x8GB RAM and use that. However the first gen Ryzen CPU memory controllers like the 1700 do not play well with 4x RAM sticks and you would
